𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬
Shinoh Nam’s spatial installations and sculptures encounter the viewer as architectural fragments, scaffolding and laboratories. Nam considers this debris metaphorical for an inner architecture or structure that is closely linked to individual perceptual processes and self-understanding. The recombination of the fragments into installations and sculptures parallels a psychological process that creates a new form, oscillating between stability and instability. These aspects are deepened by accompanying soundtracks in which beats follow one another at high and low tempo, and human or machine voices instill courage or reflect inner unrest.
The works shown in SOMA are substantially inspired by Gestalt theory and psychoanalysis: the contrast between their pristine industrial materials and the fragmentary character of the works triggers the imaginary completion of thought processes, spaces and structures. The viewers thus are encouraged to reflect on the relationship between inner and outer spaces and structures.
Shinoh Nam (* 1993, Seoul) lives and works in Düsseldorf and Berlin. He studies fine art with Monica Bonvicini (UdK Berlin) and architecture with Donatella Fioretti (Kunstakademie Düsseldorf). His works, which include sculpture, installation, photography and new media, have been exhibited internationally.

Als architektonische Bruchstücke, Gerüste und Laboratorien begegnen die Rauminstallationen und Skulpturen von Shinoh Nam den Betrachter*innen. Nam begreift diese Trümmer subjektiv-metaphorisch für eine innere Architektur oder Struktur, die eng mit individuellen Wahrnehmungsprozessen und Selbstverständnissen verknüpft ist. Die Rekombination der Fragmente zu Installationen und Skulpturen ist gleichsam ein psychologischer Prozess, der eine neue Form, oszillierend zwischen Stabilität und Labilität, hervorbringt. Vertieft werden diese Aspekte von begleitenden Tonspuren, in denen Beats in hohem und niedrigem Tempo aufeinanderfolgen, und menschliche oder maschinelle Stimmen Mut einflößen oder innere Unruhe reflektieren.
Die in SOMA gezeigten Arbeiten sind maßgeblich von Gestalttheorie und Psychoanalyse inspiriert: Der Kontrast zwischen den makellosen industriellen Materialien und dem fragmentarischen Charakter der Werke löst die imaginäre Vervollständigung von Gedankengängen, Räumen und Strukturen aus. Die Betrachter*innen werden somit zu eigenen Reflexionen über die Beziehung zwischen inneren und äußeren Räumen und Strukturen angeregt.
Shinoh Nam (*1993, Seoul) lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf und Berlin. Er studiert Freie Kunst in der Klasse Bonvicini (UdK Berlin) und Architektur bei Donatella Fioretti (Kunstakademie Düsseldorf). Seine Arbeiten, die Skulptur, Installation, Fotografie und Neue Medien umfassen, wurden international ausgestellt.
